Coach Kate
Growing up in Northern Wisconsin, I had parents who always made sure I tried new sports. I got into mountain biking at age 11 and remember saving money from mowing lawns to buy my first pair of clipless pedals. I raced the Chequamegon Short & Fat race at age 13 and kept at it. Through school I played ball sports and picked up road and mountain biking racing in college with a local shop in Hayward and cycling clubs in Platteville, WI and Dubuque, Iowa.
There, I studied biology, geography and education at University of Wisconsin - Platteville and through networking was invited to be a development rider on the America’s Dairyland Women’s Cycling Team— a true chance of a life time! Here I learned how to race road bikes. I was so fortunate to have a cycling family to teach me the ropes.
Cycling took me to Boulder CO, Asheville NC, Greenville SC and collegiate cycling to King University in Bristol, TN. After earning my MBA and helping the team place 3rd at Nationals, I moved to Gatlinburg, TN. Here I met and married my husband and had our two kids. With my youngest approaching school age, we moved the family up to my hometown in Hayward, WI where we live. I’m finally getting back into cycling after a bit of a long sabbatical due to kids and career. Getting back in shape and making your health a priority is no joke- it takes a community!
Over the years I’ve ran a couple marathons, several 5k’s and a few half marathons. I spend much of my time on my road, gravel and mountain bikes. In the winter I ride my fat bike and xc ski with plans of skiing the American Birkebeiner this winter.
I’ve coached folks to their goals and love seeing people succeed. So many of my happy moments in life on or around bicycles— and definitely around sports. I can’t wait to share my motivation and experiences!
